About Gofere

A panafrican sports brand created by three football-loving friends, Samuel Mekonen, Hassen Mohammed, and Selamu Gelaye, has revolutionized the sportswear industry in East and Central Africa. The trio identified a gap in the market for high-quality replica jerseys for African sports clubs and decided to address this need by establishing their own brand, Gofere, in 2018. From the outset, Samuel, Hassen, and Selamu recognized the challenges faced by football fans in acquiring replica jerseys of their favourite teams due to limited availability, poor quality, and a lack of customization options. This frustration led the friends to brainstorm ideas for creating a local sports brand that could cater to the specific needs of African sports enthusiasts. Drawing inspiration from Africa's iconic lion, they chose the name Gofere, meaning lion's fur coat, in Amharic, Africa's only indigenous language with its own alphabet. The initial focus of Gofere was to produce high-quality replica jerseys for African sports clubs at an affordable price. Starting with just four machines, the operation began by outsourcing some processes to larger transnational garment factories in Ethiopia. However, as demand grew and the trio saw the potential to expand their operations, Samuel and Hassen made a significant investment in manpower, machinery, and infrastructure to establish a dedicated chain of sportswear factories within Africa. By 2025, Gofere had become a leading sports brand in the region, with the capacity to produce 6000 pieces of sportswear daily and 200,000 pieces per month. Through a strategic partnership with Ethiopian Airlines, Gofere was able to deliver its products to 125 cities across 6 continents within a day, highlighting the brand's commitment to efficient service and unparalleled reach. The clientele of Gofere ranged from national teams in the Great African Lakes region to African American amateur clubs in the US, showcasing the brand's global appeal and relevance. Gofere's portfolio expanded to include sportswear and adjunct gears for over 20 sports disciplines, demonstrating the brand's versatility and commitment to catering to diverse sporting needs. The impact of Gofere on the sports community in East and Central Africa cannot be understated. The brand not only filled a gap in the market for high-quality replica jerseys but also contributed to the growth and development of the local sportswear industry. By investing in local manufacturing and fostering partnerships with key stakeholders such as Ethiopia Airlines and sport Associations, Gofere set a new standard for sports brands in the region.
